On Wednesday, April 22, several thousand people from different regions arrived to Tbilisi to join protesters in front of the Parliament building. They also said they were ready to stand “till the end,” meaning Saakashvili’s resignation.
Right after the arrival of support from the regions, the demonstration roughly numbered up to 10,000 protesters.
The infusion from the regions is an attempt to revive the flagging protest movement, in which supporters have decreased dramatically since the April 9 beginning, when 55,000 people clogged Tbilisi’s main avenues. Over the past four-day Easter weekend holiday, protest numbers had dwindled down to less than 100 people camped out in tents in front of the President’s residence/compound and other key locations around the city.
